History tells that coffee entered Colombia through the department of Norte de Santander coming from the Guyanas crossing Venezuela. It is in the customs office of the city of San José de Cúcuta where the first commercial production of the grain is registered in Grenadian territory with its corresponding exportation around the year 1835.
For this reason, the first roasting industries arose in that locality, as is the case of “Café Galavis”, founded in 1918 in Villa del Rosario, Colombia, as a result of the determination and dedication of its founder Mr. Lino Galavis, constituting an industry at the farm level together with his wife and family, with whom he roasted and sold the grain that he brought by mule from the coffee growing areas of the department of Santander. After his death in 1951 and faced with the enormous responsibility, his son, Lino Galavis junior took over the administration of the factory, who decided to give a turn to the company based on a greater planning and with a more industrial criterion, He modernized the factory through the acquisition of packaging machines built specifically by the firm Richard Pack with the purpose of satisfying the needs of packaging, hygiene and speed that were required due to the high volume of coffee bean processing and to train himself in the latest technological tendencies in coffee roasting, managing the company for the last 60 years.
Due to the high demand, the factory was located in the city of San José de Cúcuta, a territory geographically delimited with the Colombian-Venezuelan border, which is why the border country was one of the main clients of Colombian coffee.
In 2015, the engineer Juan Yáñez took on the challenge of maintaining the positioning of the firm with the vision of expanding the Core business to international markets, expanding the brand throughout the region and sustaining its name and identity in the nortesantandandereanos.
